PhD – University of Manchester (School of Materials)
September 2012 – Present
Initial research into ‘Graphene bioconjugates for biotechnology applications’. My research now has other threads such as electrochemical work with enzymes and computer modelling of acoustic sensors. We hope to be publishing on this work in the next few months.
Lab Technician – Murco Petroleum Ltd
September 2011 – September 2012
Quality control of water lagoons, production streams, and produced fuels. Also assisted in the development of process and analytic methods. Was also responsible for bringing the ICP analytical method back online during my lunch breaks, this sped up work with the oil fuel testing procedures.
Barman – Lawrenny Arms

Front of house and responsible for customer satisfaction, cash handling and managing bookings.
Operations – Whistler Blackcomb
November 2010 – May 2011
Worked with various departments in the daily operation of the resort. Cleared snow from roads and walkways with machinery, directed traffic, operated mountain lifts, and liaised with police to enable the patrol helicopter to land at the clinic. I progressed to stand in as head of the roads & parking department for the resort on a few occasions when the manager was absent for the day.
Graduate Researcher – University of Oxford
June 2010 – September 2010
Continued my work into the structure function relationships in the technologically relevant enzyme bilirubin oxidase using X-ray crystallography and electrochemical techniques. I concluded this work and handed it over to PhD students to answer further new questions generated by the research.
