Position

Graduate researcher

Date

June 2010 – September 2010

Description of role

After the completion of my MChem from Oxford and associated publications, I was hired to stay on and continue my work into the structure-function relationships of the enzyme bilirubin oxidase from Myrothecium Verrucaria (BOx).

I continued the electrochemical studies into BOx using protein film voltammetry to observe the effects of pre-grafting a layer of a substrate onto the surface of the electrode to the function and stability of the enzyme. I also correlated electrochemical findings, specifically inhibitions studies, with new aspects of the structure discovered using X-ray crystallography. At the end of my employment, I summarised my key findings and hypothesis with outlines on future experiments to test them.
